UDL Case Study: Cultivating a UDL Mindset

This case study explores CAST's partnership with Manchester Community College, which aimed to remove barriers to learning in laboratory environments through employing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and accessibility best practices. The case study focuses on Manchester Community College's Improving the Education of Mechatronics Technicians ATE project and explores how educators revamped materials and learning environments to optimize the learning experience for all students. Accessibility issues and accommodations for the Siemens Mechatronic Systems curriculum, a survey on UDL for the mechatronics project, webinars, and a revised syllabus are explored. A video on making the mechatronics curriculum more accessible further elaborates on these efforts. Information on how STEM educators can employ UDL best practices and strategies for instructor growth are also highlighted.
