Designing for Accessibility with POUR: Perceivable

This webpage, made available by Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) at Cast, Inc., describes one of the four qualities of an accessible user experience that are captured by the acronym POUR (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust). The principles in Designing for Accessibility with POUR come from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1.

Perceivable website content is "presented in a way that it can be accessed with more than one sense in order to account for both the needs of people with disabilities and those who are accessing the content in less than optimal environmental conditions." This webpage includes tips and resources for creating educational materials that are Perceivable such as: adding alternative text to images and visuals, closed captioning and transcription for videos, providing sufficient contrast between text and background, ensuring that content does not rely on color alone, and more.
