Designing for Accessibility with POUR: Operable

This webpage, made available by Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) at Cast, Inc., describes one of the four qualities of an accessible user experience that are captured by the acronym POUR (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust). The principles in Designing for Accessibility with POUR come from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1.

Operable website content "provides flexible navigation options and can be accessed with a variety of input methods," such as a mouse, keyboard, and screen reader. This webpage includes tips and resources for creating educational materials that are Operable including: providing a clear structure with properly marked up headings, creating descriptive links that make sense out of context, checking for keyboard accessibility, allowing sufficient time for interaction, and more.
