Designing for Accessibility with POUR: Understandable

This webpage, made available by Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) at Cast, Inc., describes one of the four qualities of an accessible user experience that are captured by the acronym POUR (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust). The principles in Designing for Accessibility with POUR come from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1.

Website content is Understandable "when [it] behaves in an intuitive, logical and predictable way, [and] learners can focus more of their energy and attention on understanding rather than on the mechanics of the user interface." This webpage includes tips and resources for creating educational materials that are Understandable and includes the following topics: clarifying expectations through clear directions and models, following conventions and striving for consistency, using plain language, and more.
