Communication Technology and Deaf Individuals' Literacy Skills

This resource, from the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes, provides two documents and a video that explore research on the effects of increased access to English through computer-mediated communication (CMC) on Deaf individuals' language and literacy skills. The first document is a summary of research goals, methods, findings, and implications. A 16-page report entitled "Bridging the Communication Divide: CMC and Deaf Individuals' Literacy Skills" is also available and further explores the research. A video is also provided, which likewise explores the effects of communication technology on Deaf individuals' literacy skills. The video recording runs 4:54 minutes in length.
