The Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) Compliant Investigation Process and Corrective Action Plan Proc

Have you encountered an inaccessible entrance or other barrier to access when visiting a local post office, federal office building, or national park? These and many other federal facilities are covered under the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) of 1968, the first federal law to require facilities to be accessible to people with disabilities. The Access Board was created almost 50 years ago to enforce the ABA through the investigation of complaints. This webinar will feature the Access Board’s Senior Compliance Specialist who will discuss the ABA complaint investigation process and corrective action plan procedure to address the barriers. Session attendees will also learn about the most common barriers to accessibility in complaints received under the ABA. This webinar will include video remote interpreting (VRI) and real-time captioning. Questions can be submitted in advance of the session or can be posed during the live webinar. Webinar attendees can earn continuing education credits.

Experiencing Inaccessible PDFs and the National Network for Equitable Library Service

This webinar is hosted by the Canadian Association of Professional Academic Librarians's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Community of Practice. In this presentation, Dr Daniella Levy-Pinto will talk about the experiences of being provided inaccessible journal articles, eBooks, and other scholarly materials. She will comment on the consequences badly produced reading material has for the blind community and the scholarly community more broadly. Daniella will then describe the work of the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS). The work of NNELS to advance the born-accessible paradigm has been recognized by the Accessible Books Consortium, through the International Excellence Award on Accessible Publishing  in the initiatives category.  Daniella will highlight what librarians in all capacities can do to remove barriers to reading.
